What is the goal of this website?
Sights and Sounds of the Crisis is a transnational research project that began in 2012 as a masters research seminar at the Institute for European Ethnology of Humboldt University in Berlin. The goal of this website is to provide a platform for the exchange of research on the causes and effects of the current global economic crisis.
What are investigations?
The current "investigations" within the project represent individual inquiries about the crisis conducted by students of European Ethnology at various locations throughout Berlin, Europe and its borders, and North America.
Who are the bloggers on this site? What are they blogging about?
Students within the research seminar, "what does the crisis sound like?" at the Institute for European Ethnology at Humboldt University in Berlin. They are using the site as means to document their work, research, findings, and collaborative efforts in the field.
Why Sounds and Sights?
Students in the course are pursuing a multi-sited ethnographic study of the crisis using audio and visual media to document its sounds and sights, respectively. Our hope is that these media will allow us to approach our investigations from a new perspective and open up new opportunities for collective listening, watching, and collaboration in the field.
Are there other participants?
Although the project began within the context of the research seminar at Humboldt University, it has been since its founding a transnational collaborative effort, and will expand to other universities in the coming years.
